चैत्र नवरात्रि: हिन्दू कैलेंडर के अनुसार, चैत्र माह की पहली तिथि से नवरात्रि 2024 की शुरुआत होती है, जिस दिन हिन्दू नववर्ष का भी आरंभ होता है। इस दिन से
पृथ्वी और सूर्य के बीच से होकर जब चन्द्रमा गुज़रता है तब इस घटना को सूर्यग्रहण लगना कहते है। सूर्यग्रहण हमेशा अमावस्या को ही लगता है। दरअसल चन्द्रमा पृथ्वी के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाता है और पृथ्वी सूर्य का चक्कर लगाती है इसलिए कभी कभी चंद्रमा सूर्य और पृथ्वी के मध्य आ जाता है जिससे सूर्य की रोशनी आंशिक रूप से या पूरे रूप से पृथ्वी पर नही जा पाती और सूर्य का रूप या तो पूरा ढँक जाता है या कटा हुआ सा दिखाई देता है। इस खगोलीय घटना को सूर्यग्रहण कहा जाता है।

सूर्यग्रहण के दो प्रकार होते हैं पहला होता है “खंडग्रास सूर्यग्रहण”, जिसमें चन्द्रमा सूरज का थोड़ा सा हिस्सा ढँकता है। दूसरा है पूर्ण सूर्यग्रहण जिसमें चंद्रमा सूर्य को पूरी तरह ढँक लेता है और कुछ समय के लिए पृथ्वी पर अंधेरा हो जाता है। यह पृथ्वी पर बहुत कम स्थानों पर दिखता है। कभी-कभी यह कई स्थानों पर वलय रूप यानी कंगन के जैसा दिखाई पड़ता है ऐसा इसलिए होता क्योंकि चन्द्रमा सूर्य के ठीक बीच में आ जाता है और उसके आसपास से सूर्य की रोशनी कंगन जैसी दिखाई पड़ती है।

सूर्यग्रहण वर्ष में कम से कम 2 बार होते हैं और इनकी संख्या वर्ष में अधिकतम 5 भी हो जाती है। हर सूर्यग्रहण का सूतक काल ग्रहण शुरू होने के ठीक 12 घण्टे पहले शुरू हो जाता है जो कि ग्रहण ख़त्म होने के साथ ही ख़त्म होता है। सूतक काल में कोई भी शुभ काम नही किया जाता। इस बार वर्ष का आखिरी सूर्यग्रहण 25 अक्टूबर 2022, दिन मंगलवार को है जो कि अलग-अलग देशों में अलग-अलग रूप और समय में दिखाई देगा। भारत में यह इस साल पहली बार दिखाई देगा जो कि शाम 4:22 बजे से शुरू होकर शाम 6:25 बजे ख़त्म होगा। जिसका सूतक काल सुबह 4:22 बजे से शुरू हो जाएगा। यह ग्रहण कुछ राशि के जातकों के लिए शुभदायी है पर कुछ राशि के जातकों के लिए अशुभ।

पुराणों के अनुसार सुमद्र मंथन के समय जब भगवान विष्णु मोहिनी रूप रखकर देवताओं को अमृत पान करवा रहे थे तब स्वरभानु नाम के राक्षस ने छल किया और देवताओं के समूह में जाकर अमृत पान कर लिया था। उसके इस छल को चन्द्रदेव और सूर्यदेव ने भांप लिया और तुरन्त भगवान विष्णु को अवगत किया तब भगवान विष्णु ने सुदर्शन चक्र से स्वरभानु का सिर धड़ से अलग कर दिया। परन्तु अमृत पीने की वजह से वह अमर हो चुका था इसलिए वह जीवित ही रहा। तब इसका सिर राहु और धड़ केतु नाम से प्रख्यात हुआ और ग्रह के रूप में सूर्यमंडल में इनका निवास हो गया। लेकिन इस घटना के बाद से राहु और केतु सूर्य और चन्द्र से दुश्मन भाव रखते हैं, तब से राहु सूर्य का और केतु चंद्र का ग्रहण करता है परन्तु देवता दानवों से श्रेष्ठ होते हैं इसलिए यह घटना कम समय के लिए ही होती है और यह घटनाएं सूर्यग्रहण और चन्द्रग्रहण कहलातीं है।
आध्यात्मिक दृष्टिकोण से बात की जाए तो आज से 4 हजार ईसा पूर्व सनातन संस्कृति के महान ऋषियों में से एक अत्रिमुनि ने सूर्यग्रहण और चंद्रग्रहण की अवधारणा दे दी थी और कुछ नियम और सावधानियां तय की थी। यह वैदिक साहित्य में प्रमाण के तौर पर मिलता है। ज्योतिष के अनुसार ग्रहण का प्रत्येक राशियों पर शुभ-अशुभ दोनों प्रभाव पड़ता है।

सूर्यग्रहण के अवसर पर भारतीय हिन्दू संस्कृति के अनुसार हमारे ऋषि मुनियों द्वारा यह कहा गया है कि ग्रहण के वक्त भोजन करना,पानी पीना,स्नान करना या शुभ काम करना अनिवार्य रूप से मना किया गया है। पानी के पात्रों और किसी भी द्रव्य को शुद्ध रखने के लिए उनमें तुलसी के पत्ते डाल दिये जाते हैं। ऐसी मान्यता है कि ग्रहण के समय भोजन और पानी में विषैले तत्व प्रभावी हो जाते हैं जो शरीर के लिए कई रोग का कारण बनते है इसलिए ग्रहण ख़त्म होने के बाद भोजन और पानी को नष्ट कर दिया जाता है और नया भोजन बनाया जाता है और शुद्ध पानी पात्रों में भरा जाता है। ग्रहण ख़त्म होने के बाद स्नान करने की परंपरा है ताकि ग्रहण के कारण प्रभावी कीटाणु ख़त्म हो जाएं। इस दिन गर्भवती स्त्री को ग्रहण देखने से सख़्त मनाही है और इसके पेट में तुलसी का लेप लगाया जाता है ताकि राहु की कुदृष्टि से बचा जा सके। ग्रहण के समय भगवान की आराधना की जाती है, मंत्र जप किये जाते हैं, भजन कीर्तन किया जाता है।
