माता तुलसी कौन थी इसके पीछे एक प्रसिद्ध कथा प्रचलित है। तुलसी जिसे आज हम सिर्फ एक पौधा समझते हैं वो अपने पूर्व जन्म में राक्षस कुल में जन्मी वृंदा नाम की लड़की थी, जो कि भगवान विष्णु की परम भक्त थी। वृंदा का विवाह राक्षसों के राजा जलंधर से हुआ था। जलंधर एक दिग्विजय राक्षस था जिसके अत्याचारों से देवता बहुत परेशान थे। वह जब भी युद्ध में जाता तो वृंदा संकल्प लेकर युद्ध जीतने तक विष्णु जी की तपस्या में लीन हो जाती थी। ऐसे ही एक बार जब जलंधर और देवताओं भीषण युद्ध हुआ तो जलंधर के प्रकोप से देवता युद्ध में कमज़ोर पड़ गए। तब वे अपनी इस समस्या को लेकर श्री हरि विष्णु के पास गए।

A famous story behind the marriage of Tulsi- who was Maa Tulsi. Tulsi, which we consider only a plant today, was a girl named Vrinda, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, born in a demon clan in her previous birth. Vrinda was married to Jalandhar, the king of the demons. Jalandhar was a Digvijay demon whose atrocities caused the gods to be very upset. Whenever he went to war, Vrinda used to get absorbed in the penance of Vishnu ji till he won the war with determination. Similarly, once when Jalandhar and the gods fought fiercely, the gods were weakened by the wrath of Jalandhar. Then he went to Shri Hari Vishnu with his problem.

सूर्यग्रहण के दो प्रकार होते हैं पहला होता है “खंडग्रास सूर्यग्रहण”, जिसमें चन्द्रमा सूरज का थोड़ा सा हिस्सा ढँकता है। दूसरा है पूर्ण सूर्यग्रहण जिसमें चंद्रमा सूर्य को पूरी तरह ढँक लेता है और कुछ समय के लिए पृथ्वी पर अंधेरा हो जाता है। यह पृथ्वी पर बहुत कम स्थानों पर दिखता है। कभी-कभी यह कई स्थानों पर वलय रूप यानी कंगन के जैसा दिखाई पड़ता है ऐसा इसलिए होता क्योंकि चन्द्रमा सूर्य के ठीक बीच में आ जाता है और उसके आसपास से सूर्य की रोशनी कंगन जैसी दिखाई पड़ती है।

There are two types of solar eclipse, the first is “Khandgras solar eclipse”, in which the moon covers a little part of the sun. The second is a total solar eclipse in which the Moon completely covers the Sun and for some time the Earth becomes dark. It is visible in very few places on earth. Sometimes it appears like a ring in many places, this is because the moon comes right in the middle of the sun and the sunlight from its surroundings is seen like a bracelet.

On this day Lord Shri Ram came back to Ayodhya with Mata Sita and Lakshman Ji after fourteen years of Vanvas and the people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Ram by lighting up the entire city of Ayodhya with lamps, singing the hymns. From that day till today, lamps are lit from house to house on this date which is known as Deepawali.

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार इसी दिन भगवान श्री राम माता सीता और लक्ष्मण जी के साथ चौदह वर्ष के वनवास के बाद अयोध्या वापस आये थे। तब पूरी अयोध्या नगरी को दीपों से उजियार करके,मंगलगान करके अयोध्यावासियों ने भगवान का स्वागत किया था। उस दिन से आज तक इस तिथि पर घरों घर दीप जलाए जाते हैं जिसे दीपावली के नाम से जाना जाता है।

When the Moon gradually disappears and on the 15th day when disappears completely, we call it Amavasya. Whereas this part of 15 days is called Krishna Paksha.

जब चंद्रमा धीरे-धीरे लोप होता जाता है और 15 वें दिन पूरी तरह लोप हो जाता है जिसे हम अमावस्या कहते हैं। जबकि इस 15 दिन के भाग को कृष्ण पक्ष कहते हैं।

According to mythology, the ocean was churned between the demons and the gods to get the nectar urn, in which Vasuki Nag was churned for several days by making neti and Mandarachal mountain churn. 14 gems emerged from this ocean churning, after which Lord Dhanvantari appeared with the nectar urn. Hence this date is called Dhanteras. This nectar urn was filled with many medicines. Ayurveda was created in India. Hence this day is celebrated as “National Ayurveda Day”. Lord Dhanvantari had appeared with nectar in an urn, so people usually buy more utensils on this day.

Dhanteras is celebrated in Jainism as Dhyan Teras and Blessed Teras because Lord Mahavir went on his last meditation on this date and attained Nirvana on the day of Deepawali.

पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार राक्षसों और देवताओं के बीच में अमृत कलश को पाने के लिए समुद्र मंथन हुआ, जिसमें वासुकी नाग को नेति और मंदराचल पर्वत को मथनी बनाकर कई दिनों तक मथा गया। इस समुद्र मंथन से 14 रत्न निकले जिसके बाद भगवान धनवंतरी अमृत कलश को लेकर प्रकट हुये। इसलिए इस तिथि को धनतेरस कहा जाता है। यह अमृत कलश अनेकों औषधियों से भरा हुआ था। जिसके माध्यम से भारत में आयुर्वेद का निर्माण हुआ। इसलिए इस दिन को “राष्ट्रीय आयुर्वेद दिवस” के रूप में मनाया जाता है। भगवान धन्वन्तरि अमृत को एक कलश में लेकर प्रकट हुए थे इसलिए इस दिन आमतौर पर लोग बर्तन की खरीदी ज़्यादा करते है।

धनतेरस को जैन धर्म में ध्यान तेरस और धन्य तेरस के नाम से मनाया जाता है क्योंकि भगवान महावीर इसी तिथि को अपने अंतिम ध्यान पर गए थे और दीपावली के दिन निर्वाण प्राप्त किये थे।

देवी पुराण की कथा के अनुसार माँ दुर्गा और राक्षस महिषासुर के बीच नौ दिनों तक भयंकर युद्ध हुआ और दसवें दिन माँ दुर्गा ने महिषासुर का वध कर दिया। इस दिन को बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत के रूप में मनाया जाता है। वहीं एक दूसरी कथा के अनुसार, भगवान राम ने लंका पर आक्रमण करने से पहले और रावण के संग युद्ध में जीत के लिए शक्ति की देवी माँ भगवती की आराधना की थी।

माँ दुर्गा का महिषासुर से पूरे नौ दिनों तक युद्ध हुआ इसी वजह से प्रतिपदा से लेकर प्रत्येक दिन देवी के नौ रूपों की पूजा की जाती है।

दुर्गा सप्तशती में वर्णित देवी कवच के अनुसार इन नौ देवियों के नाम इस प्रकार हैं-

इसके अनुसार नवरात्र के पहले दिन देवी शैलपुत्री, दूसरे दिन देवी ब्रम्हचारिणी, तीसरे दिन देवी चंद्रघंटा,चौथे दिन देवी कूष्मांडा,पांचवे दिन देवी स्कंदमाता, छठे दिन देवी कात्यायनी,सातवें दिन देवी कालरात्रि,आठवें दिन देवी महागौरी और नवें दिन देवी सिद्धिदात्री की आराधना की जाती है।
